Lewes resident receives Army commission, graduate degree at Georgetown University ceremonies
Gregory M. Collins of Lewes was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army May 16 at ceremonies held at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.
On the same day, Collins, a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom/Afghanistan, also received a master's degree from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. He served overseas, along with his sister, Spc. Erin Collins and many other local heroes, as a member of the Delaware National Guard 1049th Company.
During their service abroad, both Collinses were pleased to greet Gov. Jack Markell on his tour of Afghanistan during their deployment.
Gregory Collins is a graduate of St. Thomas More Academy in Magnolia, He attended the University of Scranton, Pa., where he graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science degree.
An honored member of the Georgetown University Hoya Battalion ROTC unit, Collins will receive training in his area of expertise this summer in Arizona.
