Local author Jackson Coppley will be signing his book, "Tales From Our Near Future," at Browseabout Books starting at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6.

In his first book of short stories, Coppley invites the reader into love affairs between human beings who seek intimacy and technology’s ability to replicate the perfect partner. He combines a deep understanding of technology with an ability to capture the subtleties of human affection and where they intersect.

Noted science fiction writer Jerry Pournelle told his readers, “Get 'Tales From Our Near Future' by Jackson Coppley.” Although science fiction readers are keen on the book, readers of all stripes are enjoying it.

Learn about Google Boy: A man who knows everything meets a woman who knows too much; Aureal: She can give him anything he wants except herself; and Tau and Sue: East meets West with dangerous results.

In the 21st century, says Coppley, computers threaten to invade our most personal and human emotions and situations, but we continue to ask ourselves how deep can technology really go? We have already seen what social media is doing and how internet searches reveal all secrets. But the question remains: Can the subtleties of human emotion be enhanced by a machine?

Coppley’s resume includes a dynamic career with world-leading communications and technology companies, and the launching of what the press called “a revolutionary software company” during the rise of personal computing. It is his sensitivity about human behavior combined with the understanding of the potential of technology that brings to his writing a glimpse of what is yet to come.
