Lord Baltimore food drive helps feed needy families

Dec 03, 2013

Students at Lord Baltimore Elementary School in Ocean View collected 2,131 nonperishable items during a recent food drive to assist needy families in the area.

Organized by school counselor Theresa O’Shields, the food drive had students collect canned food and other nonperishable items during a three-day period in November. Students and staff then sorted the items and prepared boxes for needy families.

LB school safety monitor Barry Dean sponsored a pizza party for the classroom that collected the most items. The honor went to MaryEllen Whelen’s second-grade class, which collected 241 items.

Second-grade teacher Whelen, back left, and in front (l-r) Assistant Principal Melissa Oates, school counselor O'Shields, Principal John Turssline and school safety monitor Dean join students to celebrate their success.
