Loriann M. White, Ed.D., 45, of Millsboro, passed away peacefully and courageously at her home Friday, July 19, 2013, in the loving arms of her family. She was the daughter of Floyd and Gail Megee of Georgetown.

Dr. White was a 1985 graduate of Sussex Central High School. She attended Salisbury State College where she received her B.A. and M.A. degrees and earned her Ed.D. in education from the University of Delaware. She had a distinguished career in education, her passion since early childhood, and was a beloved figure in the schools she served. She began her career in education teaching English at Sussex Central Middle School, where she later became assistant principal.

She was honored as the Indian River School District Teacher of the Year in 2000. She then served as principal at the Southern Delaware School of the Arts, followed by the return to her alma mater, Sussex Central High School, as dean of instruction. She was also a professor at Wilmington College where she taught administrative finance. She recently retired from Sussex Technical High School as vice principal, completing her 24-year career in education.

Loriann married her beloved husband, Chris A. White, in 1990. She was devoutly devoted to her family and very proud of her daughters. Loriann loved cooking and entertaining, traveling and reading. She ran a tight ship at home and at school with a graceful command presence. She attended Bayshore Community Church in Gumboro.

Loriann was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Loretta White in 2008; and her brother-in-law, Tony Steele, in 2011.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Loriann is survived by her daughters, Maggie and her friend Bryan Jones and Kit and her friend Mark Williams; her sister, Lisa M. Steele and her brothers, Ron D. Megee, Don W. Megee and his wife, Tara, all of Georgetown; her father-in-law, Dick White of Millsboro; sister-in-law, Cindy Hoban and her husband Bill of Dagsboro; and Cora Parsons and her husband Preston of Dagsboro. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, extended family members, many dearly beloved friends, former colleagues and students and her beloved canine Bella.

A memorial service and celebration of life to honor Loriann will be held at Bayshore Community Church in Gumboro Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. Pastor Danny Tice will officiate. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Tunnel Cancer Center, c/o Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
