Love Creek resident concerned about break-insFormer resident faces charges
A series of home invasions has residents at Love Creek Mobile Home Park worried, particularly since several homes there have been targeted.
Delaware State Police arrested Shannon L. Shapter, 32, of Lewes in connection with a home invasion Sept. 22 and two on Sept. 26 at homes in the Love Creek Mobile Home Park, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
Love Creek resident Kay Kumitis, 69, said she is familiar with Shapter who lived nearby in the mobile home park. Every morning, Kumitis said she would see Shapter walk up and down her road. Kumitis said Shapter walked into her home one day and left with money.
"She said she had to use the bathroom, and I said she could use the front bathroom," Kumitis said. "After she left, I realized she took some money from me. I did get the money back from her, and I talked to police but didn't press charges."
Kumitis said she is concerned for her elderly neighbors, and she wants them to be extra cautious and lock their doors.
"Normally I do lock my doors, but if I forget, I don't want to have to worry about someone just walking in," she said.
Shapter was not charged in that incident, but she faces three counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of possession of burglar tools, theft, attempted theft, two counts of criminal mischief and offensive touching in connection with September break-ins. She was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution in default of $9,500 secured bond.
