Lucille Davis, retired teacher

Mrs. Lucille Davis of Millsboro passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Christiana Hospital in Newark.

She was born March 15, 1925, in Elizabeth, N.J. to the late Lindsey and Clair Thoms. She married her husband Lester Davis, and together they raised two children. Lester preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Davis was a well-educated woman, active in the Millsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was a member; she was a member of VFW Post 10638 Auxiliary. She had a professional career, working for many years and retiring as a teacher in the Allegheny East Conference. She loved to read, and do word search and crossword puzzles. She always accepted everybody, was particularly dedicated to her church and to her family, but yet she knew how to stand her ground. She loved, and adored her grandkids.

She is survived by two children: Rosalind J. Davis of New Carrollton, Md. and Alphonso G. Davis and his wife Debora, of Georgetown. Also surviving are three brothers: Frank Thoms and his wife, Florence, Edwin Thoms and wife Charlotte, and Lorenzo Thoms and his wife also named Florence; there are four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded by a brother, Alfred Thoms.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, Jan. 18, at the Millsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church, 30007 Cordrey Road, Millsboro, where friends may call two hours earlier, from 10 a.m. until noon for visitation and calling hours. Pastor R. Vincent Dehm will officiate and Pastor Colby Matlock will deliver the eulogy. Interment follows in the cemetery beside the Millsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church. Lucille loved flowers and floral tributes are welcomed.
