Mahaffie has knowledge of important issues
No matter who is elected to Lewes City Council we’ll have a very young, in terms of tenure, council. As the saying goes, experience counts.
I’ve previously written in support of Bonnie Osler. Two candidates remain, both with valuable traits. Mike Mahaffie has been a citizen-servant for the past 15 years as a member of the Lewes Planning Commission.
If and when the Showfield development comes back up for discussion by city council, Mayor-elect Becker will be the only council member with direct and comprehensive knowledge of the issues and process the first time around. This is the sort of situation in which Mr. Mahaffie’s long-term involvement with the planning commission would be particularly beneficial.
Mr. Mahaffie’s resume includes two significant - to me - aspects that we will lose, in part, when Mayor Ford steps down May 19: Mike has lived much of his life and brought up his family in Lewes, and he has connections and relationships with a variety of state agencies important to Lewes.
Many qualities are taken into consideration when determining how to cast one’s vote. Mr. Mahaffie has demonstrated the ability to work within a team as well as to lead when appropriate. During last Friday’s candidate forum, Mike exhibited his local knowledge, analytical and curious mind, and respect for all opinions.
Please join me in voting for Mike Mahaffie and Bonnie Osler May 10.
