Mahaffie has leadership Lewes needs

By Patricia Kirby Gibler | May 09, 2014

This election in Lewes - and any election - should not be a popularity contest. It should be a contest between people weighing in with the experience and the leadership that they can offer the city or the county or the state or the country.

The whole story of the 2014 election for Lewes City Council is that there is one candidate who has the experience we need, and not so much the social exposure, since he has been working in a number of practical land use capacities at the state and local level for almost 30 years

And your vote for him is important…now more than ever.

Think about the next 10 years in Lewes. Think about a shopping center or a nicely designed village in place of the farm now for sale by Lingo/Townsend across from Cape High School. Think of the ways this highway and all access routes into town will need to change.

Think of what you would like to see and ways you would like to develop and plan the growth which is eminent in our town, and then, look to see who the person is who has the connections, the access, the experience, and, if you will, a bit of good-ol'-boy network in him to bring together experts throughout Delaware to work toward our common goals.

This person should come across as knowledgeable. And proud, confident that he has both the skills necessary to help us create a vision for land use as well as a way to reconnoiter a path forward the next 10 years.

I of course am talking about Mike Mahaffie. Please vote for him tomorrow, Saturday, May 10. You won’t be sorry and you won’t be kicking yourself in a year saying why did I throw away one of my votes.

This year, when all of us can hear the chugging of development machines moving up Kings Highway, please use one of your votes for the Lewes City Council on Saturday to put the fellow with planning credentials on our team - Mike Mahaffie.
