Rehoboth Beach — Monday, Jan. 6, will be a day of new beginnings in Rehoboth Beach, not just at City Hall, but also across the parking lot at Main Street.

Main Street’s board of directors has hired Krys Johnson as executive director, taking over for Annmarie Westerfield. Johnson will start the same day Sharon Lynn will officially take over as city manager, Jan. 6.

“Krys comes to us with extensive experience and a heartfelt appreciation for Rehoboth and what the city represents,” said Main Street President Alyssa Titus. “We are excited for her to implement some fresh ideas while maintaining our hometown traditional events.”

Johnson has worked for the State of Delaware for the past seven years and purchased a home in Rehoboth last year. Johnson hails from Seattle, but moved to Delaware from Vancouver, Wash., when her husband, Peter, took a job here. Johnson has two adult sons who both go to school on the West Coast, but Delaware has become the place Johnson calls home.

"It's a nice place to land," she said.

While working for the state, Johnson served as a chairperson in the State Employees Charitable Campaign, where she was in charge of event planning, managing volunteers and fundraising. She said her experiences in fundraising and coordinating volunteers are skills that will help her at Main Street.

Johnson said she was excited to begin work and listed her major goals as director as preserving and protecting Rehoboth’s small-town charm, improving on the appearance of downtown and sustaining the economic base.

“I’m really excited to hit the ground running,” she said. “I’m thrilled to work there full-time, and I get to live there too.”
