Make a rain date!

By Billie Criswell | Jul 11, 2013

Sometimes it’s just too hot and other times it’s just too rainy. Depending on the weather, there are times when you find yourself indoors. Whether the weather is too hot or just plain inclement, you should embrace the opportunity to go on a “rain date” with your honey or the whole family.

There are lots of great things to do when the weather gets the best of you.

Wine or brew tour ... for free!

Nassau Valley Vineyards (32165 Winery Way, Lewes, 645-9463  and has a great museum dedicated to winemaking! You can also check out their winemaking operation at the end, which is pretty impressive. Taste some wine, learn some history and enjoy the vineyard’s self-guided tour!!!

Dogfish Head’s brewery (6 Cannery Village Blvd., Milton, 684-1000 and is open to the public and their tours are a ton of fun. Get the inside scoop on how their brewing process works and even get a taste of some of their premium beers. Their guided tour takes you through their off-centered process and ends in - what else - a beer tasting.

Outlet shopping

If you are looking to spend a little money or are just a general fan of shopping, you have to hit the Tangier Outlets while you are in town. We Delawareans take our tax-free shopping for granted around these parts, and if you are from out of town the outlets are the perfect place to indulge in a little tax-free purchasing at prices that will knock your socks off.

Magic shows

For magic at the beach there is no place more authentic than Dicken’s Parlour in Millville (35715 Atlantic Ave., Millville,

With magic shows and rotating acts coming from all over the country, it’s entertainment that is not to be missed. Enjoy a show and refreshments in their parlour.

Indoor Mini Golf/ Arcade

Indoor miniature golfing is a fun alternative to the outdoor courses, especially if it’s too hot or raining! Ryan’s Mini Golf (1 Delaware Avenue in Rehoboth) is the perfect, inexpensive way to have a fun round of mini golf. Why not make it a day by hitting up the indoor mini golf and then heading over to one of the boardwalk’s arcades?! I love arcades because there are a variety of games to suit everyone’s variety of game styles, and at the end, you get tickets. (There is just something about those tickets that makes me feel like a million bucks!)

Attend a matinee

Matinees are my favorite! I love seeing the movies during the day and getting the cheaper price. Plus, I love going to dinner after the movie because then you can talk about the movie at dinner. Rainy and super hot days are perfect for this game plan. With the 3D movies at Midway, and lots of choices, you can take the whole family or go on a daytime date.
