Man charged in Dewey knife incident

By Melissa Steele | Mar 18, 2013

A Harrisburg, Pa., man faces charges after police say he threatened a cab driver with a knife.

A local taxi driver went to the second block of New Orleans Street at about 10 p.m. March 16 to pick up two women who had called for a ride, said Sgt. Clifford Dempsey of the Dewey Police Department.

Another woman and man tried to enter the vehicle with the women, and the driver told them he could not take them, Dempsey said.

This made the man angry and he pulled out a folding knife from his pocket and pointed it at the cab driver, Dempsey said.

The cab driver feared for his life and called police; a passerby wrestled the man to the ground, Dempsey said. After a brief struggle, Dempsey said, the man started to walk away when he was arrested by a resort patrol officer who responded to the scene.

Dewey police charged David C. Kray, 31, with two counts of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, two counts of aggravated menacing and disorderly conduct.

Kray was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $7,000 secured bond.
