Man dies following motorcycle crash in Laurel

By Melissa Steele | Aug 07, 2013

A Millsboro man died Aug. 4 after a car rear-ended his motorcycle while he was stopped waiting to turn on a Laurel road.

Robert L. Dorman III, 39, had stopped his 2006 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle at the intersection of Shiloh Church Road and Scott Land Road when a 2000 Honda Accord driven by Kaetlin B. Burke, 17, of Laurel struck the motorcycle at full speed, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The impact lodged the motorcycle in the car's engine compartment and forced the motorcycle upright while Dorman fell backwards onto the car's windshield, Fournier said.

Dorman was not wearing a helmet; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kaetlin Burke was properly restrained; she was not injured.

The intersection was closed for about three hours.
