Man killed, wife critical in Milton area crashCharles and Ruth Moore both properly restrained
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Feb. 7 north of Milton.
The incident happened at about 6:10 p.m., as Charles E. Moore Jr., 51, was operating a 1991 Buick LeSabre northbound on Cedar Creek Road just south of Isaacs Road (Sussex 30) at an apparent high rate of speed.
While attempting to negotiate a moderate left curve, the Buick exited the right side of the roadway. Moore overcorrected resulting in the vehicle crossing over the southbound lanes and exiting the west side of the roadway while rotating in a counter-clockwise manner. The right rear side of the LeSabre then struck a utility pole completely severing the rear portion of the car. The front portion of the car then began to spin violently clockwise ejecting both Charles Moore and his wife, Ruth A. Moore, 45, from the opening of the automobile. Both were properly restrained.
Charles Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. Ruth Moore was initially transported to Milford Memorial Hospital but was later flown to Christiana Medical Center where she is listed in critical condition.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation into this incident. Cedar Creek Road between Sussex 30 and Reynolds Pond Road were closed for approximately three and a half hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
