March of Dimes March for Babies set May 3 in Rehoboth
Families and business leaders will come together Saturday, May 3, in the March of Dimes annual March for Babies - the nation’s oldest walk fundraiser honoring babies born healthy and those who need help to survive and thrive. This year’s local sponsors include Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, Cat Country Radio, Bayhealth, Beebe Healthcare, Cigna, WSFS Bank, Energizer Personal Care, and ClearChannel Outdoor.
The 2014 Ambassador Family in Sussex County is the Bell family. The family formed its walk team, SammyB, in honor of Samuel, now a happy and healthy toddler, but just 3 pounds 1 ounce when he was born 12 weeks prematurely. He spent the first nine and a half weeks of his life in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, where he needed to grow, as well as learn to breathe and eat.
Registration begins at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk at 9 a.m. with the 2-mile walk kicking off at 10 a.m. To register for the event, go to www.marchforbabies.org.
Funds raised by March for Babies in Sussex County help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, NICU family support programs and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies.
Premature birth is the most urgent infant health problem in the U.S. today. It affects more than half a million babies each year. More than 4 million babies were born last year, and the March of Dimes helped each and every one through 75 years of research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs. The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. For the latest resources and information, visit marchofdimes.com or nacersano.org.
