The Sussex County March for Babies stepped off April 20 from the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand.

More than 150 walkers took part in the annual event to raise money for the March of Dimes, which supports community programs to help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies, and it funds research to find answers to the serious problems that threaten babies. March of Dimes walks began in 1970 and have raised $2.6 billion, said Aleks Casper, state director of the Delaware Chapter March of Dimes.

This year's walk featured a speech by Sussex County Ambassador Mom Sarah Heath of the Kimmel family, who shared her son Jude's story. Jude was born 13 weeks too soon and needed intensive care and a breathing tube with respirator to survive. Jude spent 230 days in hospitals before he was allowed to go home with his mom Sarah.

Heath said the March of Dimes gave support and access to treatments that help Jude survive and thrive.

This year's walk raised more than $25,000 for March of Dimes.
