With a spirited offense and a high-pressure defense, the Mariner Middle School boys' basketball team defeated the Selbyville Indians 43-17 Jan. 7 at home. The team was led by point guard Corey Corbin with 12 points, while guard Noah Piper added 9 points and guard Hassan Corbin chipped in 8 points. Guards Richard Carey and Jerry Harden anchored down the pressure defense that led to the Vikings' victory.

Girls' basketball action found the Mariner Lady Vikings dropping their game by a score of 27-10 to the Lady Indians. Hannah Betts, Kaeli O'Neil-Dearing, Aliyah Browning and Kara Hignutt all contributed to the point total for the Vikings. The Vikings struggled to break a tenacious half-court press by the Indians, but the Mariner team never threw in the towel, making several strong defensive plays. Hannah Betts, Jada Flowers and Lakendra Harpe played especially tough on the defensive side for the Vikings.
