Marion Yost Ray, had varied nursing career
Marion Bernadette Yost Ray, 85, of Chestertown, Md., died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, in Heron Point in Chestertown.
She was born and raised in Ambler, Pa. Her father Clarence “Jake” Yost was the longtime Ambler fire chief. At just four-foot, 11-inches, Marion had to stand on her tiptoes to pass the University of Pennsylvania entrance height requirement. She proudly graduated with her registered nurse degree in 1949. She met her husband and graduated from the University of California at Berkley with her bachelor’s degree in 1957. She enjoyed her long career working in a wide range of nursing settings. She ended her career working in hospice, putting into practice her strong patient advocate beliefs.
Marion loved to garden and created beautiful landscapes in each of the eight states in which she lived. She adored her family and tried to pass along her love of social justice and activism. She made friends through her volunteer activities in PTA, local libraries and the YMCA.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Lee Ray, North East, Md.; her sister, Nanette Fluck, Warminster, Pa.; her five children and their spouses, Karl, Colorado Springs, Colo., Karen and Glenn Hollis, Breckenridge, Colo., Gretchen and Bill Mills of Voorhees, N.J., Douglas Ray and Sue Brown, Methuen, Mass., and Preston and Deanna Ray, Sandy Hook, Conn.; and her four grandchildren, Meredith and Cynthia Mills and Erin and Tyson Ray.
