Memory Café to meet fourth Monday of the month starting March 25Meetings to include Alzheimer's patients and caregivers
Life can be challenging, not only for people who have Alzheimer’s disease, but also for their caregivers. In addition to the many physical and emotional challenges, the caregiver is often unable or unwilling to leave his or her loved one, resulting in social isolation.
Representatives from Delaware Hospice, the Alzheimer’s Association and CHEER have teamed up to create a special program, Memory Café, which will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the fourth Monday of each month, in the CHEER Coastal Leisure Center in Ocean View.
The first session of Memory Café will kick off with music with Delaware Hospice’s Chaplain Michael Ntow, All About Me collages, and information on the Medic Alert + Safe Return Registry offered through the Alzheimer’s Association.
Memory Café will provide a safe environment where people with memory loss and their care partners can laugh, learn and be socially engaged with others traveling the same journey. Participants will share ideas, experience games with art and music, and enjoy refreshments. Educational materials will be provided and experts in the field will be available.
Memory Café is open to the public and free of charge, although a snack donation will be accepted. This program is not an adult day program, nor one that provides personal or medical care. The caregiver or family member is responsible for their loved one.
Registration is requested for planning purposes, but not required. Register or learn more by contacting Yolanda Gallego at firstname.lastname@example.org or 302-539-2671.
