Sam Seibert, son of retired Maj. Ed Seibert and Debra Seibert of Milford, has been selected as the Delaware representative to perform with a national organization known as Sound of America Honor Band.

In July, Sam will join select student musicians from nearly every state in the U.S.  when the Sound of America Honor Band begins its 2014 European concert tour.

Applicants are chosen after a rigid character and musical evaluation. The band presents 10 concerts in Europe's finest concert halls and cathedrals during its 23-day tour. Following four days of intensive rehearsals at Elizabethtown College, the students will experience the culture of six countries. They will also participate in a special ceremony at the American Military Cemetery in Luxembourg where Sam will have the honor of folding the flag.

Carmine Strollo, drum instructor at B&B Music in Lewes, helped Sam prepare for the auditions.

Seibert has been performing with the Milford Community Band for the past four years. He also performs at farmers markets and retirement homes around Delaware, playing the drums for the Downtown Dixieland Band. He has also performed with the Dover Symphony Orchestra for the past three seasons.

In 2012 and 2013, Sam was selected for the Sussex County Honors Band, and in 2014 he made the Delaware All-State Band. In addition to his musical volunteer service, Sam is an Eagle Scout who has earned over 100 merit badges.
