Milton Farmers Market partners with Dogfish for Oktoberfest Oct. 4

The last market of the season adds libations and live music
Sep 27, 2013
The second annual Oktoberfest comes to Dogfish Head Brewery at 6 Village Center Drive in Milton Friday, Oct. 4.

The second annual Oktoberfest comes to the grounds of Dogfish Head Brewery at 6 Village Center Drive in Milton Friday, Oct. 4, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. This unique and fun-filled last market of the season for Milton Farmers Market will feature more than 20 vendors offering fresh and organic produce selections, all-natural meats and poultry plus wild-caught salmon and other cold water fish.

Additionally, there will be plenty of delicious breads, freshly-baked pastry items, and specialty products, including homemade jams, lotions from Lavender Fields, and hand-crafted tie-dyed all-cotton shirts. As always, patrons can enjoy on-site, fire-grilled prepared meals from Abbott's Grill of Milford.

One thing that makes this last market different and highly enjoyable is the addition of beer on tap from Dogfish Head Brewery. This feature was so successful last year at the inaugural Oktoberfest that the kegs actually ran dry! Market board members working with DFH personnel promise this will not happen this year!

Another family-friendly difference is the Great Pumpkin Carve, a contest wherein participants of all ages bring their carved masterpieces to the market grounds by 3:30 p.m. and enter them in three age-restricted categories. Oktoberfest patrons receive voting tickets to select their favorites at each of the three tables, and the winners are announced at 5:30. Everyone is welcome to bring a jack-o-lantern to the market to enter this contest.

Each week the Milton Farmers' Market features live music from local musicians. For Oktoberfest, market patrons will again enjoy  the blended harmonies of authentic bluegrass brought to them by Chester River Runoff,  a much-followed band from Maryland's Eastern Shore. This is the same  band that performed to great acclaim at last year's end-of-season event.

Oktoberfest is held at the same time as all Milton Farmers’ Markets - from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., but not the same place.

It moves from Union Street to Village Center Drive off Chestnut Street, on the grassy area next to DFH’s brewery, with plenty of free parking in the adjoining lots.

This second Oktoberfest brings the Milton Farmers Market to its third season’s close. Take a minute to swing by the manager’s tent to say thanks to all the volunteers who each week bring in the very best of fresh local food choices, exuberant live entertainment, and thriving community spirit.
