Milton folk artist Kathy Buschi to exhibit at Nassau Valley Vineyards during MayMeet the Artist reception set at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 4
Kathy Buschi, a folk artist from Milton, will be exhibiting her art at Nassau Valley Vineyards during the month of May. A Meet the Artist reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, May 4. She will be introducing prints of her newest painting, “Lewes Canalfront Park.”
Buschi is well known for her Delaware scenes, especially those of the Lewes area. She is a self-taught artist and paints with acrylics on Masonite. She started painting in 1979 after her husband bought her an oil paint set for Christmas. At that time she was pregnant with their daughter. Shortly after that, they moved from Long Island, N.Y., to New Hampshire. New Hampshire’s beauty originally inspired Buschi to paint idyllic pictures of rural early American life.
The Buschis moved to Delaware in 1996 and now Kathy mainly paints local Delaware scenes. She even painted a picture of their daughter’s wedding at the Nassau Valley Vineyards. In 1999, she started having prints produced of her work.
Buschi's paintings come alive with people and animals. She includes her daughter Jessica, as a child, along with Phebe and Samantha, the yellow labs Jessica grew up with, in her works. The little red-haired girl with the two yellow labs has become the artist's trademark.
Other dogs that have been in her life along with a cat also frequent her paintings. A viewer may spot her grandchildren, a 2-year-old girl and 6-month-old twin boys, in her paintings, too.
Buschi has won several art awards in several states, but says her greatest reward comes when people tell her that her paintings make them feel happy.
Buschi exhibits at many local art shows including the Sea Glass and Coastal Arts Festival at the Lewes Historical Society and St. Peter’s Art Show. She is a member of the Rehoboth Art League. Her work can be seen at www.BuschiArt.com.
The Nassau Valley Vineyards are at 32165 Winery Way in Lewes. Winery and gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Saturday and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday.
