The Milton Historical Society will begin its 2013 Speaker Series at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, with a presentation about the Delaware History Trail by Milton resident and retired Delaware State Archivist Russ McCabe.

McCabe was responsible for selecting the 50 sites that make up the Delaware History Trail, which is intended to serve as a starting point for residents and visitors to explore and learn about the state’s heritage and culture. Delaware is rich with natural and historical treasure.  McCabe’s presentation will include an entertaining discussion of the sites and their significance including the important impact of historic sites on local economies.

Images from "Landmarks and Legacies," a book of photographs by Kevin Fleming of Delaware’s most historic places that was published in June 2012 will illustrate the talk. A limited quantity of books will be available for sale after the presentation. The cost is $25.

The Delaware History Trail is a program of the Delaware Tourism Office. Related information is available at www.visitdelaware.com/delaware-history-trail. One of the sites is very close to home. Milton’s Governor’s Walk is included on the trail. It is an attractive educational resource in the center of town for local residents and students that also attracts visitors to Milton throughout the year.

The annual Speakers Series is sponsored by the Milton Historical Society. Future talks will be held Friday, Feb. 22, and Friday, March 22. The Lydia B. Cannon Museum is at 210 Union St. in Milton. These events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the museum at 302-684-1010 or visit www.historicmilton.org.
