Milton Historical Society thanks community

By Jack Bushey & Allison Schell | Nov 07, 2013

The Board of Trustees of the Milton Historical Society extends its gratitude to the many volunteers who worked together to plan and implement the annual Best of Milton auction and party Sept. 21. It was a great success!

Our thanks to M.J. Ostinato and Pat Grieninger for the delicious hors d’oeuvres with able help from Helen and PD Camenisch, Kathy Jordan, Lillian Phillips, Mike Ostinato, Myra Oates, Linda and George Manis. Kevin Kelly served as the emcee, Gladys Wilkens handled the 50/50 raffle, Jeanette Wagner, Lorraine Wasserman, Susan Mathe and Martha Jane Donovan-Collins welcomed the guests.

The auction was assisted by Joy Kelly, Leah Betts, Maryann Donnan, Sam Garde, Lynn Ekelund, John Oates, Richard Wheeler and Lee Wheeler. Bill Kaufman, Tom Kelly and Ray Burton handled the bar. Thank you to Tidewater Utilities for providing bottled water for the event. Janet Terner served as photographer. Vincent Verrassi and Ken Cicerale set the tone with the music. Richard Bryan of Delaware Realty Auctions revved up the crowd for a lively live auction. A high flying ride in a 1946 Aeronca Champ airplane with John Chirtea has already been enjoyed by Ellen Calhoun, the winning bidder. The Milton Volunteer Fire Company provided the venue and assistance.

Thanks to the members of the Best of Milton planning committee, Kim Biever, Brenda Burns, Martha Jane Donovan-Collins, Connie Fisher, Kathy Garde, Judy Howard, Brenda Hughes, Patti Nicholson, M. J. Ostinato, Mary Schwanky and Jeanette Wagner for a job well done!

We also appreciate the incredible support from our business community, civic organizations and event sponsors who recognize the importance and value of preserving and sharing the history of Milton and the Broadkill Hundred who generously sponsored this event.

Last, but not least, thank you to all of the members and friends who attended, bid on a fabulous array of items, and had a great time while helping to fund the educational and public programs offered through the Milton Historical Society.
