Milton power outages leave about 2,000 in the dark

By Melissa Steele | Sep 16, 2013

About 2,000 Delmarva Power customers in Milton lost power Sept. 15 following consecutive power outages.

The first outage occurred at 2:46 p.m. after a 2002 Dodge Ram truck driven by Jimmie Nanney ran off Harbeson Road for unknown reasons and struck a utility police, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

Nanney was not injured; he was cited for inattentive driving and no proof of insurance.

The accident knocked out power to 1,952 customers until 8:03 p.m., said Matthew Likovich, media relations manager for Delmarva Power.

However, four minutes after power was restored, he said, it was off again for 751 customers because of breaker problems at the Harbeson substation.

Those 751 customers were joined by 1,201 more at 9:36 p.m. when breaker problems continued at the substation. By 12:44 a.m. Sept. 16, Likovich said, power had been restored to all customers.

“We had more problems than we anticipated,” Likovich said.
