MOMS Club to host Children's Consignment Sale Oct. 12-13

To be held in the Cape Henlopen High School gymnasium
Oct 01, 2013

Local families are preparing for this fall’s 8th Annual Children’s Consignment Sale, sponsored by the MOMS Club of Coastal Delaware. The sale will be held in the Cape Henlopen High School gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, and will feature a half-price event from 8 to 11 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 13.

Inside the gym, attendees will see racks and racks of new and gently used clothing, shoes, and accessory items for children ages newborn to preteen. Tables will be piled high with toys, books, videos, small furniture, and accessory items for kids of all ages. The sale will also include maternity clothing and books for expectant moms, as well as strollers, high chairs, and a variety of infant equipment.

Community members are invited to participate in the sale as consignors and volunteers, and of course shoppers. At the conclusion of the event, 20 percent of all proceeds will be donated to a local children’s charity selected by club members.

“We are so excited to continue with a half price event on Sunday this year. Most of the remaining items will be offered at half price, which allows us to earn more money for both our consignors and our selected beneficiary. The consignors will earn much-needed cash before the holidays and the club is able to offer support to organizations that serve children in our area,” said Sheryl Burris, MOMS Club member and sale committee chair.

Although the consignment sale is hosted by the Coastal Delaware MOMS Club chapter, anyone can be a consignor or volunteer. To learn more about this year’s event and how to get involved, go to www.momsclubsale.com.

“It really is easy to become a consignor,” said Burris. “Just go to the website to order tags. Then, go home and clean out those closets. Once your items are clean and ready, just prepare the tags, and deliver your items Friday, Oct. 11 to the gym.” The MOMS Club will handle all of the prep work, sales, advertising and accounting.

After the event, consignors may pick up unsold items or donate them to charity. Within 30 days of the event, the MOMS Club will issue checks for 70 percent of each consignor's sold items. Anyone who volunteers to help will be invited to a special presale shopping event on Friday evening.

For the 2013 sale, the MOMS Club of Coastal Delaware has selected the Sussex County Foster Parent Cluster Association as the financial beneficiary. As a nonprofit group, their mission is to aid, enrich, and educate foster families in Sussex County to help children in their care meet their full potential. Training courses for foster parents are offered as well as fun activities for foster kids throughout the year. They provide clothing, blankets, car seats, shoes, diapers, gift cards, and other necessities to kids in foster care.

Aid is also given to college-bound foster teens through laptops and college application fees. The SCFPCA meets monthly in order to give foster parents an opportunity to discuss ways the group can further enrich and support their kids and families.

The MOMS Club of Coastal Delaware is an organization dedicated to supporting mothers who have chosen to stay at home during their child’s infancy and early childhood. Through meetings, service projects, and activities, mothers have the opportunity to share parenting information and develop lasting friendships. All MOMS Club meetings and most activities are held during the day so mothers may bring their children.

The local chapter, which serves women from Lewes, Milton, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Harbeson, Millsboro and Georgetown, is just one of more than 1,800 chapters of the MOMS Club across seven countries. For more information about the club, contact Aimee Isaac or Brooke Pikolas, membership vice presidents, at coastalmomsde@gmail.com.
