More information sought on bicycle accidents

By Patrick Williams | Aug 26, 2014

I read your Aug. 8 piece on bicycle safety with some interest. It is a story that needs to be covered. My personal opinion is that bicycle riders make most of their own problems. But that is not why I am writing.

In your piece you offer a lot of speculation on the reasons for, locations of, and injuries resulting from bicycle accidents. You must have some of the actual data; why not use it? For instance, you speculate about head injuries. What are the actual injury types that are being reported? Where are accidents happening? Is there any data on the reasons for accidents. If so, what does it show? It is difficult to try to reduce these accidents unless we know the when, what, why, and where of what is actually happening.

Thanks, and keep on writing.
