MOTHER DUCK HATCHES DUCKLINGS IN SERENITY GARDEN

The mother duck and her ducklings.

Nanticoke Memorial Hospital isn’t just the birth place of many human babies. Now, it is also the birth place of yet another group of ducklings. For the past several years, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital’s Serenity Garden has become the hatching place for one mother duck and her ducklings. This very determined mother duck flies into the Serenity Garden every year to lay her eggs and wait for them to hatch. Just this summer, this mother duck has had three sets of hatchlings.

And, for each litter of babies, one of Nanticoke’s employees from the Facilities Department keeps an eye on the ducklings to make sure they are taken care of and fed. This year, Steve Baldwin helped the baby ducklings by feeding them and putting fencing down over an open grate so none of the ducklings can get stuck or fall. Once the ducklings hatch, Mr. Baldwin helps the mother duck by putting the ducklings in a box to transport them to the Nanticoke River. The mother duck meets her ducklings by the river and continues to take care of them in their natural habitat. Even the ducks know Nanticoke is a great place to start a family.
