A motorcyclist was struck June 20 near the Five Points intersection after police say he tried to avoid one car and hit another.

David Bell, 59, of Laurel was riding his 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Route 9 at 2:17 p.m. approaching the light to turn onto Beaver Dam Road. At the same time Karen K. Clayton, 35, of Rehoboth Beach exited the M&T Bank parking lot and tried to make a left turn at the light, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

Bell tried to avoid Clayton's car, but struck the rear bumper of a 2011 Lexus RX350 stopped in front of him, Fournier said.

Bell was taken to Beebe Healthcare with nonlife-threatening injuries. Clayton was uninjured and cited for failure to remain stopped.

The driver of the Lexus, Barry W. Fernstermacher, 67, of Lewes, was also uninjured.
