Motorcyclists injured after colliding near Millsboro
Two motorcyclists were injured Sept. 5 after police say they collided while making a turn near Millsboro.
The two were riding in a staggered pattern at 5:05 p.m. on Hardscrabble Road approaching Godwin Road, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.
Stanley J. Grella, 61, of Bethany Beach was riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson when he turned right onto Godwin School Road. As Grella made the turn, Fournier said, Gerald M. Townsend, 75, of Ocean View who was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle behind Grella failed to notice Grella turning.
Townsend struck Grella's bike on the right side; the impact ejected both riders onto the roadway, Fournier said.
Neither rider was wearing a helmet, Fournier said.
Grella was flown by State Police helicopter to Christiana Medical Center where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. He was cited for no proof of insurance.
Townsend was taken to Beebe Medical Center where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. He was cited for inattentive driving.
Traffic on Route 20 was slowed for an hour and a half while the accident was cleared.
