Murder mystery musical 'Curtains' comes to Possum stage April 19-28
The Possum Point Players will be opening "Curtains," a hilarious murder mystery musical, Friday, April 19. It will run for six performances, through April 28.
"Curtains" has a book by Rupert Holmes, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The original book and concept were by Peter Stone, and additional lyrics are by John Kander and Rupert Holmes.
As the curtain rises, Jessica Cranshaw (played by Anne Maloney of Millsboro), the untalented leading lady of "Robbin' Hood of the Old West," a bad Western adaptation of the Robin Hood story, is murdered during her opening-night curtain call. The entire company comes under suspicion, and Lt. Frank Cioffi of the Boston Police Department (played by Don Megee of Georgetown) is called in to solve the homicide. Believing the perpetrator is still in the building, he sequesters it.
The suspects include the hard-bitten lady producer Carmen Bernstein (played by Chris Polo of Dover); her husband Sidney (played by Doug Friend of Lewes); the show's flamboyant director Christopher Belling (played by Pat Erhardt of Seaford); divorced songwriting team Aaron Fox (played by John Zinzi of Harrington) and Georgia Hendricks (played by Leslie Boslet of Milford); stage manager Joanie (played by Trish Herholdt of Milford); choreographer and leading man Bobby Pepper (played by Gregory Breitkreitz of Viola), ingénue Niki Harris (played by Cassia Steck of Selbyville); and ambitious chorine Bambi Bernét (played by Yvette Siegel of Laurel).
Production numbers are rewritten, rehearsed and rewritten again, but the body count is rising. Can Cioffi, a theater fan and amateur actor, solve the case and save the show before the curtain rises, or will it be “Curtains” for him as well?
"Curtains," directed by Jim Hartzell of Georgetown, with musical direction by Liz Messick of Laurel and choreography by Deni Robinson of Lewes, is being performed at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, April 19, 20, 26 and 27 and at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 21 and 28 at Possum Hall in Georgetown. Tickets are $23 for adults, $22 for students and seniors. Tickets are on sale at www.possumpointplayers.org and also at 302-856-4560.
"Curtains" is being produced through special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
