NANTICOKE CARDIAC REHABILITATION RECEIVES RECERTIFICATION
The cardiac rehabilitation program at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital has received recertification by the American Association of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
Nanticoke’s comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program emphasizes secondary prevention of heart disease through risk factor reduction. Risk factor reduction is accomplished through individualized patient education and small group exercise training. The team of registered nurses is supplemented by access to a consulting staff that includes a dietitian, diabetes educator, and a pharmacist. Dr. Richard Simons of Nanticoke Cardiology Associates serves as the program’s Medical Director.
Nanticoke Memorial Hospital’s Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation service opened in 1987 and has continuously been certified since 2004 by the AACVPR. The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to the improvement of clinical practice, promotion of scientific inquiry, and the advancement of education for the benefit of health care professionals and the public in the fields of cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation. During the certification process, a national board conducts reviews and determines whether essential requirements for standards of care are met.
Most people affected by coronary heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can benefit from cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, according to AACVPR. This rehabilitation improves health and quality of life, reduces risk of recurrence, reduces the use of health care resources, and teaches participants to achieve an optimal level of independence.
