Nanticoke Indian Powwow set Sept. 6 and 7

Source: Submitted Members of the Nanticoke Indian Association line up for the Grand Entry at a previous Pow Wow. The 37th annual gathering, which will see more than 40 tribes participate, will take place Sept. 6 and 7.

The Nanticoke Indian Association will welcome visitors to its 37th Annual Powwow Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6 and 7.  Powwow grounds open at 10 a.m., Saturday with Grand Entry at noon. Second dance session will be at 4 p.m., and grounds close around 7.

On Sunday, the Worship Service begins at 10 a.m. and Grand Entry is at 1 p.m. Dancing, storytelling, and more will be held throughout the afternoon. Grounds close at 5.

There will be American Indian drummers and singers, 40-plus visiting tribes from across Indian Country, authentic Indian art and craft vendors, Nanticoke Indian Museum tours, Native American foods and many more activities to enjoy.

The Powwow grounds are located in the middle of a naturally beautiful wooded area off John J. Williams Highway, approximately eight miles east of Millsboro. Signs will be posted along John J. Williams Highway between routes 113 and 1. GPS-friendly address: 26800 John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro.
