A new book about the life of the Rev. Dale Dunning is available with all proceeds benefiting her Jusst Sooup Ministry.

Area residents had their first chance to purchase the book during a June 8 book signing event at the Jusst Sooup Ranch in Coolspring. Author Debby Coughlan was also on hand to greet people.

Coughlan, who now lives in Pasadena, Md., met Dunning when she volunteered at a soup kitchen. She also was part of the local Schell Brothers team that helped develop the family's nomination for TV's “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Coughlan's first book, “In The Middle of the Line,” recounts a young orphan's journey from war-torn Liberia to his new home with an American family.

Dunning and her family have been active in their ministry for more than 12 years. Dale gets up well before dawn most days to cook soup to be served at soup kitchens. The Dunnings received national publicity about their ministry as the subject of an “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” television show segment that aired as a Thanksgiving special in November 2011.

During the last week of August 2011, and after months of planning, thousands of volunteers and dozens of contractors volunteered their time day and night. Under the supervision of Schell Brothers, the Jusst Sooup Ranch was constructed in just seven days.

The book's foreword is written by Chef Michael Symon, who is co-host of ABC's “The Chew.” The award-winning chef owns four restaurants and is also an author. Symon and Dunning met in Chicago on the set of his TV show when the Dunnings were sent on a weeklong vacation by ABC during the construction of the Jusst Sooup Ranch.

Books - selling for $19.99 - can be purchased at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach, Lewes Dairy Market on Pilottown Road in Lewes and at Dunning's soup kitchen at Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway fellowship hall along Route 1 on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
