Massey’s Landing project on Sussex council agenda
Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, in the county administration building on The Circle in Georgetown.
Three public hearings are included on the agenda. At 10:15 a.m., two hearings on the proposed fiscal 2014 budget and sewer and water district charges will take place followed by another public hearing at 1:30 p.m. on applications for a zoning change and conditional use for a proposed RV campground in Massey’s Landing. Lewes property owners asked to clear overgrowing plants
When walking along sidewalks in the City of Lewes, pedestrians shouldn’t need to step out into the street to get safely around branches, shrubbery and ground plantings overhanging sidewalks.
Lewes Mayor and City Council are asking property owners and others responsible for grounds maintenance to trim and cut back excess plant matter.
“It’s a significant problem to solve,” said Ted Becker, a Lewes City councilman who said he walks in the city and has encountered overgrown sidewalks.
At the June 10 Mayor and City Council meeting, the panel approved a Lewes Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee recommendation to encourage property owners to address the problem.
Rehoboth taps planners for setback changes
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners will allow the planning commission to study and develop a recommendation for changes to the city’s side-yard setback regulations for lots larger than 50-by-100 feet.
The city commissioners will formally adopt the planning commission’s duties at their Friday, June 21 meeting.
The planners had raised concerns that owners of lots greater than 50-by-100 feet were building all the way to the side-yard setback, resulting in large homes with very little open space. Both standard and double lots have to abide by the same setback rules – 16 feet of total side-yard setback and 10 feet of rear-yard setback.
The planning commission has debated whether the rules should be changed to make double lots have a greater amount of sideyard setback, but wanted to get the blessing of the city commissioners before moving forward.
Rehoboth planners to review 111 Rodney St. partitioning
The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission will conduct a preliminary review of a partitioning application for 111 Rodney St. at the commission’s 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 14 meeting in the city commissioners’ room.
Owners Jeffrey and Trina Varone wish to divide the property into two lots. One lot would be 5,001 square feet, while the other would be 5,000 square feet. Attorney Gene Lawson has requested the partitioning on behalf of the Varones.
The commission will also continue its work studying and reviewing the city’s tree ordinance, with task reports from commission members, adopting an action plan for gathering input from tree companies and builders, developing an estimate for when information gathering is complete and estimating when a workshop meeting can be scheduled.
County awards $1,500 for The Circle water fountain repair
Sussex County Council members Sam Wilson and Vance Phillips assigned $1,500 from their grant request accounts to aid the Town of Georgetown in repairing the water fountain in The Circle.
The fountain was damaged in a recent car accident and requires about $15,000 in repair work. The driver’s insurance will pay for $10,000. Wilson earmarked $1,200 for the project, while Phillips pledged $300.
Milton planners to meet Tuesday, June 18
The Milton Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, at the Milton Public Library.
A public hearing will be held on Fernmoor Homes’ request for preliminary approval for Phase 5 of the Heritage Creek subdivision. Commissioners may vote after public comment.
Also on the agenda is the preliminary site-plan review of Chestnut Properties’ request to construct an underground propane tank field in an open space area of Phase 2B of Cannery Village.
