Rehoboth offices to close Labor Day
The Rehoboth Beach administrative offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day. Refuse pickup will proceed as normal. The administrative offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Aug. 31, but not be open on any more Saturdays until May 2014.
Rehoboth board cancels Aug. 26 meeting
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment has cancelled its Monday, Aug. 26 meeting due to a lack of agenda items.
The board’s next scheduled meeting is Monday, Sept. 23.
Rehoboth parks panel cancels meeting
The Rehoboth Beach Parks and Shade Tree Commission has cancelled its Monday, Aug. 26 meeting. The meeting was cancelled due to a lack of agenda items.
Rehoboth to consider dock endorsement
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners will discuss and consider sending a letter to the Lewes Rehoboth Canal Improvement Association endorsing the concept of a dock adjacent to the Rehoboth Beach Museum at the commissioners’ 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16 meeting. The commissioners will discuss and approve the recruitment plan, profile and first-year goals developed by Rockville, Md.-based consultants The Novak Group for the recruitment and hiring of a new city manager.
Finally, the commissioners will confirm additional appointments to the City Hall Complex Master Plan Task Force, award a contract for the installation of a standby generator at the State Road lift station and confirm appointments to the communications and animal issues committees.
GLF accepting grant requests
The annual grant cycle for the Greater Lewes Foundation has begun. Nonprofit organizations that support the GLF mission to “maintain and improve the quality of life in the Greater Lewes region” can submit proposals to the foundation by Sept. 30.
Applications will be reviewed by the GLF Board of Directors at GLF’s October meeting, and grants will be announced soon afterward. Applicants should provide the following information in proposals of two or three pages:
• Contact person at the organization • A brief description of the need to be met
• The specific amount of money being requested
• How the grant money will be used
• Other prospective sources of funding
• A list of the board of directors members

The Greater Lewes Foundation typically makes grants in the $500 - $1,000 range to nonprofit organizations in the 19958 ZIP code area, and others that serve Lewes-area residents.
Town of Georgetown sets Open Air Market
The Town of Georgetown is hosting the second Open Air Market Tag/Yard/Rummage/ Craft Sale for Saturday, Sept. 14, from 7 a.m. until noon on The Circle. This event will allow interested parties to purchase premium space around The Circle to set up tables and/or displays to sell merchandise, including new, used, artwork, crafts, garage, yard and vintage items. The Circle will be closed to traffic to allow the public to walk freely while also providing them an opportunity to patronize the other businesses and eateries.
The Historic Courthouse will also be open to tour.

Delmarva Power reminds customers
Delmarva Power reminds home and business owners to practice safety when someone claiming to represent a business contacts them either in person or by telephone. Many companies, including Delmarva Power, will contact customers in person or via phone for various reasons.
If someone claims to represent a company, whether the company is Delmarva Power or another entity, it is important that customers take precautions to verify the person is affiliated with the company, especially if that person is requesting an immediate monetary payment.
Customers should ask for official photo identification from any person who shows up at their door. Employees from reputable companies, such as Delmarva Power, will carry official dentification cards. If proper identification cannot be produced, customers should notify police and the company with whom the individual claims to be associated.
If someone calls saying they represent a certain company, customers should ask them to verify their identity and affiliation. If customers have any doubt about the validity of a claim they should call immediately at 1-800-375-7117.
Sussex Democratic Jamboree set Aug. 24
The annual Jamboree sponsored by the Sussex County Democrats will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m., in Cape Henlopen State Park. Democrats from all over the state will be here for a fun day at the beach. There will be an opportunity to meet local, state and federal elected officials. Lt. Gov. Matt Denn, senators Tom Carper and Chris Coons and Congressman John Carney will be present along with many other representatives.
Barbecue will be provided by Emmings Caterers, with a menu for vegetarians. There will be music by David Downing of Milton with songs led by Greg Fuller, Democratic candidate for Register of Wills. State park restrooms and showers are located close by so make a day of it and enjoy the sand and surf before going home.
