Gape Gazette posts holiday deadlines

With Christmas and New Year’s Day falling right in the middle of the week, the Cape Gazette has scheduled early advertising deadlines. The dead­line for both retail and classified advertising for the Tuesday, Dec. 24 edition is noon, Thursday, Dec. 19. Deadlines for the Friday, Dec. 27 edition are noon, Friday, Dec. 20. Cape Gazette offices will be closed Dec. 24-25. Deadlines for the Tuesday, Dec. 31 edition will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 26, with deadlines for the Friday, Jan. 3 edition moved up to noon, Monday, Dec. 30. The offices will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Sussex County Council off until Jan. 7

Sussex County Council will not meet the following three Tuesdays: Dec. 17, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, in the county administration building on The Circle in Georgetown. In addition, Sussex County of­fices will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, Wednesday, Dec. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Town manager to talk Dewey code

Dewey Beach Town Manager Marc Appelbaum will hold a workshop with town council at 4 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, at Dewey Beach Life Saving Station on Dagsworthy Avenue. Dewey committee to talk marketing

Dewey Beach Marketing Com­mittee will meet at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, at Dewey Beach Life Saving Station on Dagswor­thy Avenue. The committee will discuss its goals and ways to market the town. For a complete agenda, go to townofdeweybeach.com.

Dewey partnership to give proposals

Dewey Beach Town Council will meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at Dewey Beach Life Saving Station on Dagsworthy Avenue. Dewey Beer Company will pres­ent its proposal for a restaurant and brewery.

Council is scheduled to dis­cuss and possibly vote to remove parking spaces from the center of Dickinson Avenue, between Rud­dertowne and the Rusty Rudder.

Point Farm hearing postponed in Lewes

The developer of Point Farm, a proposed 69 single-family home community that would be built on 107 acres near Lewes’ Great Marsh, has received city approv­al to postpone a public hearing on its request to annex the land.

After receiving a letter of in­tent from developer Jack Lingo Asset Management, Lewes May­or and City Council at the panel’s Dec. 9 meeting said the public hearing, which had been set for Monday, Jan. 6, would take place after the project’s preliminary subdivision plan had been sub­mitted to and approved by Lewes Planning Commission.

A City of Lewes annexa­tion panel determined Point Farm’s proposed annexation of­fers advantages to the city and the developer outweighing the disadvantages both might expe­rience.

The panel said annexing the land would promote its con­nectivity to the city and assure future community homeowners that what is built will be included in city development.

Rehoboth board to meet Dec. 16

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16, in the city com­missioners’ room to hear two cases. First, the board will hear a combination appeal and variance request for 232 Rehoboth Ave. Owner Catherine Magdaleno is appealing the building inspec­tor’s decision that lots 80 and 82 have been merged.

Building records for the property are con­flicting; county records indicate that there are two lots, while city records show it is one merged lot. Magdaleno’s attorney, Gene Lawson, is arguing that the lots are separately titled, and the property does not require a par­titioning. If the appeal is granted, Lawson is requesting a variance to allow both lots to be a mini­mum of 4,999 square feet.

The board will also hold a continuance of a public hearing for a variance request at 100 First St. Owner William Alexander is seeking a variance to allow an HVAC unit currently in the southeast side-yard setback to be replaced and relocated to the northwest side-yard setback.

Milton police committee to meet

The Milton Ad Hoc Police Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16, at the WBOC Conference Room, located at 1 The Square. The group will open the meeting with an executive session to discuss the depart­ment’s information-collecting practices and contents of docu­ments not on public record. The committee will then open the meeting to the public and will discuss patrol schedules, the department’s out-of-jurisdiction policy and a memorandum of understanding between Milton Police and Delaware State Police and other government agencies.
