Rehoboth planners Feb. 14 meeting cancelled

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has cancelled its Friday, Feb. 14 meeting due to inclement weather. The commis­sion’s next scheduled meeting is 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 14.

Sussex, Kent to take part In forum

Members of the public are invited to meet and ask ques­tions of some key Sussex and Kent elected officials at a special community forum scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Milford.

The free event will be held at the Milford Public Library, located at 11 Southeast Front St., from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It features Sen. Gary Simpson, R-Milford; Rep. Harvey Kenton, R-Milford; Rep. Dave Wilson, R-Seaford; and Rep. Jack Peterman, Sussex County Council members Joan Deaver and Sam Wilson, and 4th District Levy Court Commis­sioner Eric Buckson.

Simpson says questions or comments about any federal, state, or local issues are wel­come. Possible topics include the governor’s $3.8 billion rec­ommended budget, a proposed 10-cent gas tax and the economy.

Lopez to hold Senate Coffee Feb. 20

Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, will hold a Senate Coffee and Conversation Thursday, Feb. 20, at Surf Bagel, near Five Points, Lewes starting at 7:30 a.m. Dis­cussion topics will include, among other things, the gov­ernor’s recent 10 cent gas tax proposal, the recently released final recommendations of the Route 1 Pedestrian Safety Task Force, and any comments, sug­gestions or concerns brought by those in attendance.

Sussex changes Feb. 18 meeting time

Sussex County Council has changed its start time to 1 p.m. for its Tuesday, Feb. 18 meeting. See a complete agenda at sus­sexcountyde.gov.

Dewey will offer free parking some evenings

Dewey Beach Town Council voted unanimously Feb. 8 to provide free parking at metered and permitted spaces from 5 to 11 p.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during the sum­mer season. The idea is to make Dewey Beach more welcoming for families visiting the area. For more information, call town hall, 302-227-6363.

Lewes to conduct tree inventory

The City of Lewes will be conducting a city tree inventory through Bartlett Tree Experts starting Feb. 17, through Feb. 21. The city received funding through the 2013 Delaware Urban & Forestry Grant to conduct the inventory. Bartlett Tree Experts will be mapping and identifying city trees as well as assessing their condition, health, vigor and valuation. The inventory will provide the city with a tree main­tenance management plan for existing city trees and identify areas for additional trees to be planted.

Sussex airport is public meeting topic

Sussex County officials will have a public meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, to discuss the county airport runway extension project.

The meeting will take place at the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center at 21911 Rud­der Lane, Georgetown. Topics to be discussed include runway closure dates, the construction process and expected outcomes of the project.
