Committee to elect Billy Carroll sets coffees
The committee to elect Billy Carroll, Mike Cummings treasurer, announces his candidacy for the Sussex County Council 4th district. The committee has scheduled several coffees for the public to meet the candidate in the coming weeks. They are scheduled as follows: Wednesday, Feb. 19 in Arena’s Long Neck from 10:30 a.m. to noon, 25938 Plaza Drive 5 (Giant Shopping Center); and Friday, March 7 at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 226 Rehoboth Ave.
Delmarva Christian open house postponed
The open house for prospective students slated for Thursday, Feb. 13, was postponed to Thursday, Feb. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., due to weather conditions. Visitors will meet DCHS teachers, staff, students, and parents as they learn about the school’s Christ-centered curriculum that imparts excellence in academic standards, exceptional academic scores, and high college acceptance rates. Information on the individual learning program known as iLearn, the unique and exciting J-Term, the athletic program, and the school’s offerings in music, visual and performing arts will also be available. Lewes to hold Historic Preservation meeting
The Lewes Historic Preservation Commission will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, at city hall. The purpose of the meeting is to consider a request from Burton Builders LLC for the restoration of fire damage and an addition to the second floor to the home at 105 McFee St. Commissioners will also consider a request from the owners of 107 McFee St. to replace existing vinyl siding. Lewes planners to meet Feb. 19 on Point Farm
The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, at city hall. Commissioners will consider a request from Jack Lingo Management LLC for a major subdivision of a 108.75-acre parcel of land into 69 single-family lots and zoning of residential beach (R-3). The project is known as Point Farm/Harbor Point and is being considered for annexation into the city.
Commissioners will also consider a request from Canal Front Partners LLC to rezone 2 and 4 Tennessee Ave. to marine commercial zoning in order to construct townhomes. To see the full agenda, go to ci.lewes.de.us.
Fleming talk to Coastal Camera Club rescheduled
Previously planned for an earlier date, Jay Fleming’s photography presentation at the Coastal Camera Club is now scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. at Cadbury at Lewes, 17028 Cadbury Circle. Fleming will talk about how best to photograph food, including food styling, backgrounds, lighting, lens selection, focus point and more.
In an effort to promote local seafood, Fleming has been collaborating with restaurants that serve Maryland seafood products. His photographs are used online in social media and in print publications to connect consumers to the restaurant and the products. He will work on a cookbook within the next month.
Fleming comes from a family of passionate photographers. His father, Kevin Fleming, is a former National Geographic photographer and a highly acclaimed Delaware photographer.
