Cape school board meets May 22

The Cape Henlopen school board will hold its regular meet­ing at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 22, in the cafeteria of Beacon Middle School.

On the agenda for discussion and action is a new transporta­tion plan that would require more students walk to school and allow for shorter bus rides. The board also will hear an update on the new elementary school project.

Lewes BoA hearing set for May 20

The Lewes Board of Ad­justment will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, at city hall. A public hearing will be held for the the variance request for nonstandard lot sizes from Jason Burris and Matt DiSabatino to combine two adjacent properties at 111 Bank St. and 125 Second St., then resubdivide them into two lots. The minimum lot size in the town center commercial district is 5,000 square feet. The appli­cants are requesting the 111 Bank St. lot decrease from 3,085 square feet to 2,878 and the 125 Second St. lot increase from 1,363 square feet to 1,570. Lewes BPW to meet on May 20

The Lewes Board of Public Works will meet at 7 p.m., Tues­day, May 20, at city hall. Board President C. Wendell Alfred, director Jack Lesher and new­comer Nancy Levenson will be sworn in for new terms on the board. The board will discuss the BPW’s recognition of earn­ing 2013 American Public Power Association electric utility first­place safety award. Lewes council to hold special meeting May 22

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 22, at city hall. The purpose of the meet­ing is for the presentation and consideration of a final draft report by Rebecca Quinn of RC Quinn Consulting regarding eval­uation of existing rules, codes, documents and plans as they relate to the Coastal Manage­ment Assistance Grant. Section of Route 30 closed until Friday

Route 30 between Route 9 and Pettyjohn Road near Georgetown will be closed until 3 p.m. Friday, May 23, for Delaware Depart­ment of Transportation crews to remove and replace a crossroad pipe. A detour is marked and in place.

Lewes finance committee to meet

The Lewes Finance Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 21, at city hall. Members will receive an update on current cap­ital projects, including the new comfort stations in Zwaanendael Park and Mary Vessels Park, Lewes Police Station renovations and the transportation enhance­ment project. The group will also discuss fiscal year 2015 approved capital improvements as well as additional capital projects to be considered. For more informa­tion, call city hall at 302-645-7777.

Lewes planners to meet May 21

Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, at city hall. Members will consider requests from SPI Pharma to construct a 5,000-square-foot pole building, 800-square-foot equipment shed and an 11,000-square-foot addi­tion to its existing building. A discussion will also be held about revisions to the comprehensive plan and the rescheduling of the public hearing for High­land Heights subdivision plan. 14th District Dems to hold fundraiser

The public is invited to Come to the Cabaret, a fundraiser hosted by the 14th District Dem­ocratic Committee Thursday, May 22, from 7 to 10 p.m., at Irish Eyes at Lewes. Viki Dee will pro­vide entertainment for the event. Complimentary hors d’oeurves and cash bar will be available. Tickets are $40 pre-sale and $45 at the door.
