Rehoboth to select reassessment bid
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners will consider selecting a firm to conduct the city’s first property reassessment since 1968 at the commissioners’ regular meeting, 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, in the city commissioners’ room.
The winning bid is expected to be Rehoboth-based firm PTA/DelVAL, which submitted a $132,000 bid. The commissioners will also consider adoption of a memorandum of understanding between the city and Rehoboth Beach Sister Cities Association regarding the construction and maintenance of a garden to be constructed off Olive Avenue near Lake Gerar.
In addition, the commissioners will consider adoption of an ordinance adopting the 2012 version of the International Building Council’s various codes. The new codes are an update of the 2006 versions, which the city previously adopted.
In new business, the commissioners will consider setting a date for a public hearing on a proposed ordinance that would require site-plan review for building permits of new structures within 25 feet of Lake Gerar or Silver Lake.
Streets and Transportation Committee Chairwoman Pat Coluzzi will give a presentation on the creation of moped/scooter parking areas within the city, an item the commissioners may also vote on.
Old Landing project gets preliminary nod
A 32-lot housing development on Fairway Drive off Old Landing Road near Rehoboth Beach has received preliminary approval from Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission. At its Jan. 10 meeting, commissioners unanimously backed a motion by Commissioner Mike Johnson. The project dates back to 2004 when it received its first preliminary approval. But after the final site plan was approved, the developer did not record the plan and the permit lapsed.
Under the new plan, Johnson said the developer, Main Street Homes at Sussex LLC, redesigned the project to address neighbors' concerns by deleting three lots on the 20-acre parcel. He also said the new design incorporates another location for a county pump station. The project requires final site-plan approval from the commission before work can proceed.
Plans approved for Mount Joy Road project
After five time extensions, a housing project along Mount Joy Road near Long Neck appears to be moving close to reality. At its Jan. 10 meeting, Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission approved the final site plan presented by J. Michael Waring/MJR Investors LLC for a 99-lot cluster housing development on 77 acres.
Sussex County offices are closed Jan. 21
Sussex County government offices will close Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22.
