At high tide Wednesday afternoon, waves break close to Route 1 near the Indian River Inlet bridge. Dunes and sand were washed away during Hurricane Sandy covering the road with sand causing the road and bridge to be closed for a week.
Winds and waves from a nor'easter off the East Coast hit the area Nov. 7, less than two weeks after Hurricane Sandy. The U.S. Weather Service has issued a coastal-flood warning until 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, with a high-wind warning until 6 a.m. Winds are expected to range from 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph along the Cape Region coast.
According to the weather service, numerous roadways could flood and property damage in low-lying and coastal areas is possible. The elevated tides and wave action during the time of the storm could result in additional moderate to major beach erosion.
