UPDATE: Officials investigate Rehoboth fire
Damage estimated at $50,000
Rehoboth Beach — Fire marshals are investigating the cause of a fire near the city limits of Rehoboth Beach. The fire broke out at about 6:15 p.m. Jan. 9, at the intersection of Lincoln and Jefferson streets in the area known as the "Forgotten Mile." Firefighters from Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and Indian River fire departments responded to the blaze.
Rehoboth Beach Fire Department Public Information Officer Warren Jones said the fire was contained to the attic area of the home.
"When the first truck arrived fire was coming through the roof and heavy smoke was showing," he said.
Firefighters spent about two-and-a-half hours on scene. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported, Jones said.
The cause of the fire is not yet determined, but fire marshals have estimated damages at $50,000.
