On Screen/In Person series to offer 'Abel Raises Cain' March 9
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present a screening of an entertaining documentary titled “Abel Raises Cain” as a part of the 2012-13 On Screen/In Person film tour, which brings filmmakers and their films together to participating communities. The screening will take place at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 9, in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway.
Take an unprecedented glimpse into the life and bizarre career of Alan Abel, the notorious media prankster who has made a name for himself several times over with stunts that are just ridiculous enough to be believable, especially to a media that feeds on salacious stories. In this loving portrait of an eccentric father, Alan’s daughter Jenny takes the audience on a roller coaster ride through the myriad of elaborate hoaxes and schemes that Abel pulled off over the years, all of which were designed to provoke, amuse and make people question everything that they see, hear or read. Slate.com found this film “an invigorating and often hysterical look at a gifted comic and the nation of dupes he continues to use as his medium.”
Tickets are $4 for film society members and $6 for future members. Tickets can be purchased online at www.rehobothfilm.com, by calling 302-645-9095, Ext. 1, or visiting the RBFS office, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Note that tickets are nonrefundable.
