One charged, two sought in West Rehoboth shooting
Delaware State Police troopers have charged an 18-year-old Georgetown man and are searching for two additional suspects in a May 10 shooting that has left another 18-year-old man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his leg.The incident occurred about 7 p.m. as troopers responded to the 19000 block of Duffy Street, West Rehoboth, for a report of a fight with shots fired at a large outdoor gathering. Upon arrival, troopers located a Harrington man who had suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.
Preliminary investigation indicates that three subjects - Rakeem R. Conquest, 18; Derrick Sewell, 23; and Precious I. Tiggs, 22, arrived by vehicle, immediately got out and confronted the victim. A fight occurred between the victim and Conquest, who produced a handgun. During the altercation the victim was able to knock the handgun from Conquest’s hand. Sewell pushed the victim backwards while Tiggs retrieved a second handgun from inside the vehicle and handed it to Sewell.
Sewell then fired one round, striking the victim in the leg. All three subjects then fled the scene in the vehicle. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Treatment status and disposition are unknown at the time of this release.
After further investigation and investigative leads, Troop 4 Major Crimes Detectives were able to identify and connect Conquest, Sewell and Tiggs to the shooting. At approximately 11:20 p.m. last evening, troopers were able to locate Conquest in Georgetown, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Troopers continue to actively search for Sewell and Tiggs. If observed call 911 immediately.
Conquest is charged with first-degree assault; possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony; possession of a firearm by person prohibited; aggravated menacing; second-degree conspiracy; and offensive touching. He has been committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $81,500 cash bond. Delaware State Police have active warrants for Sewell and Tiggs, charging them with first-degree assault; possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; aggravated menacing; second-degree conspiracy; and offensive touching.
