The Overfalls Foundation will meet at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, with a presentation from Master Cargo Officer (Ret.) Tim Delp, who will give a glimpse into the world of U.S. Navy and maritime industries operations. The meeting will be held in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 211 Mulberry St., Lewes.

Delp is the owner of AMS Automotive in Lewes, but he spent 20 years as a cargo officer aboard several U.S. Navy supply vessels, which keep modern naval combat squadrons fed, fueled and supplied with everything needed for their long deployments at sea.

With the dawn of modern warship construction came a reliance on nuclear power for main propulsion, allowing carriers to remain under power at sea for months at a time. While this was great for security issues, it created many trickle-down problems to be dealt with, such as how to keep 5,600-plus carrier crew members supplied with the basic necessities of fresh food, soap, razors and toilet tissue as well as ammunition, missiles and aircraft fuel for the 90-plus helicopters and fighter jets on board.

Delp’s presentation on “Life Aboard a USN Supply Ship” will give the audience insight into the critical world of logistics involved in getting supplies from shore side to supply ships, and then from the supply ships to carriers.

The meeting is open to foundation members and the public. For more information, go to www.overfalls.org.
