Pedestrians, bicyclists have total disrespect
I recently had chance to drive south on Route 1 from Milford to Rehoboth, and during that trip I was amazed at the total disrespect that pedestrians have for motorists!
Just south of the Five Points light, two young women (not teens) were walking their bicycles from the northbound lanes to cross over the southbound lanes. They never stopped - just walked out, causing the car in front of me, and me to stop short! The car in the center lane next to me, was from out of state, and he stopped to allow these "adults" to continue across. Don't know what happened in the far right lane, as we began to move.
My 7-year-old granddaughter was in the car and as we discussed this, she said, "They need to get a brain!" hmmmm - that coming from a 7-year-old. We continued with our business, and on the return trip north the outlets were obviously jammed because of the bad weather, and vacationers. That didn't stop a young male "adult" from walking northbound on the median strip in the middle of the highway, and then just as he got to the beginning of Midway, decided to step out to get to his car, which was parked in the parking lot. We got to a red light, in time to see him enter his car.
I know alot of pressure is put on the drivers these days, but I really think that the big problem is with the pedestrians! They have one thing in mind, to get to the other side of the road, no matter what!
So, for all those who must drive in this area during the summer rush, just please be aware of the dangers and stay alert!
