People’s Place in Allstate's Purple Purse Challenge Sept. 2-Oct. 3Campaign will benefit domestic violence organizations
People’s Place announces its participation in The Allstate Foundation Purple Purse Challenge. The purple purse is symbolic of a woman’s financial domain, and its color represents domestic violence. Women are often financially controlled by their partners and therefore are not in a position to just leave a domestic violence situation.
The Allstate Foundation is awarding $500,000 to 200 domestic violence organizations across the country involved in this challenge. The SAFE Program of People’s Place - Shelter, Advocacy, Freedom and Empowerment - will be part of this nationwide challenge to raise awareness of domestic violence survivors experiencing financial abuse by their partners.
The campaign, which runs from Sept. 2 to Oct. 3, offers an opportunity to be part of contests to raise more funding each week from The Allstate Foundation. The organization that raises the most money by the end of the challenge period will be awarded a $100,000 Grand Prize.
The SAFE Program of People’s Place provides services to domestic violence victims free of charge including emergency shelter, case management, advocacy, counseling, 24-hour hotline, children’s services, and individual and group counseling.
