People's Place thanks CrossFit Lewes
I am writing on behalf of the board of directors and the entire staff at People’s Place to thank the members of CrossFit Lewes, their family and friends, and the many sponsors of the recent Share the Pain fundraiser. CrossFit Lewes members chose to support domestic violence survivors for their annual fundraising event and selected the SAFE Program of Peoples’ Place to become the beneficiary of their second installment of Share the Pain.
On March 15, at the CrossFit Lewes location, over 100 members, along with their families and friends, presented a check in the amount of $33,000 for our domestic violence program.
This year’s Share the Pain 2 event paired non-members with members of CrossFit Lewes, to compete as teams in a series of workouts that gave non-members the opportunity to find out what CrossFit is, and that it is a great exercise program for anyone, no matter your age or size. Although the real purpose of the event was to raise money for the domestic violence program at People’s Place, it quickly became evident that CrossFit Lewes is comprised of an extremely generous and caring group of individuals that became passionate about helping victims.
The members were all aware that the money they were raising would be used to help domestic violence survivors get back on their feet and transition safely to new homes of their own. Additionally, this funding will help replace some of the lost grant money the SAFE program suffered this past year. It allows us to provide assistance with security deposits, first month’s rent, and utility deposits for those that are ready to leave the shelter and are struggling to survive on their own, with limited money and resources.
Kris Carper, owner of CrossFit Lewes, and Craig Klasic, CrossFit Lewes trainer, worked tirelessly for months obtaining sponsorships and spreading the word to the surrounding community about the cause. The CrossFit members also contributed by raising donations and sponsorship money in their names for the competition. We are very honored to be chosen this year and want to thank all those involved with the planning and process of putting together such a wonderful event.
We also would like to thank the following local business sponsorships: Schell Brothers, Atlantic Transportation, George & Lynch, ig Burton, Cape Gazette, Orthopaedic Associates of Southern Delaware, Big Chill Surf Cantina, LuRong Living, County Bank, Reebok, Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, Root Gourmet Restaurant, Dogfish Head, AgVisory, LifeAsRx, Meineke, and the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Also, a big thank you to the Big Chill Surf Cantina for kicking off the event festivities by holding a pre-Share the Pain fundraiser Feb. 21, and donating 15 percent of all proceeds that evening.
In conclusion, People’s Place is very grateful for the support and huge donation received for our SAFE Program, and are dedicated to becoming the agency of choice to “help people find their path to growth and independence.” We hope that you will visit our website to learn more about the services the dedicated staff at the SAFE Program provide for domestic violence survivors, under the supervision of Marcey Rezac, LCSW, DVS.
