Mitchell, a Pushcart Prize 2012 recipient, is the author of two volumes of poetry, "The Near Surround" and "Grief Hut," and her poems have appeared in Poetry Daily and in national journals such as Agni and Salt Hill Journal, and are anthologized in "Last Call" by Sarabande Books. Make it Sound True, a teaching exercise using sound as a poetic device, is included in "The Working Poet."  Associate editor of special features for the online journal Plume, Mitchell teaches at Salisbury University in Maryland, and in the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts.

Mitchell joins fellow member of Salisbury University’s Environmental Studies Tom Horton, who will speak on “Writing About Delmarva - The Land and Water Around You.” His devotion to Delmarva’s environment is found in his books "An Island Out of Time: A Memoir of Smith Island in the Chesapeake" and "Turning the Tide: Saving the Chesapeake Bay." Other publications include "Bay Country and Swanfall: Journey of the Tundra Swans." He is also a contributor to National Geographic, Rolling Stone, and Time.

ESWA, with 250 members, is Delmarva’s largest writing organization, devoted to the enhancement of its members’ creative skills. Through monthly meetings, social media and workshops, ESWA offers writers various ways to express themselves. ESWA’s major efforts go into managing the Bay-to-Ocean Annual Writers Conference and publishing the Delmarva Review, a nationally recognized literary journal.
