Police investigate home-invasion robbery near Selbyville
Delaware State Police are investigating a home-invasion style robbery that occurred about 12:50 a.m., July 24, in the 30000 block of Rooster Road, near Selbyville.
A 30-year-old male victim and his 22-year-old girlfriend were in the living room when a trio of men broke into the home. One of the suspects, armed with an unknown type of handgun, demanded money from the victims, and a physical altercation ensued.
A second suspect, armed with a slap stapler, struck the male victim in the head, but he escaped through a back door to a neighbor's house and called 911.
The female victim was also struck in the head with the stapler. The three suspects fled, but not before one of them grabbed the victim's purse, which contained an undisclosed amount of cash.
Both victims were taken to Beebe Medical Center where they were treated and released with nonlife-threatening injuries.
State police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said preliminary interviews and investigation indicate this was not a random act, and the victims may have been targeted by the suspects.
The suspects are described as a large, heavyset man last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a mask covering his face, armed with an unknown type of handgun.The second suspect, armed with the stapler, was described as having an average build, and was last seen wearing a hoodie with a mask covering his face.
The third suspect is of average build, last seen wearing a tan shirt, tan camouflage cargo shorts and a Panama Jack type hat with chin strap. Fournier said he was armed with a dark-colored wooden object.
